June 08, 2010: AMAZING Lego QR Campaign

German marketing company Lukas Lindemann Rosinski put together one of the most impressive QR marketing campaigns that I have seen to date for one of Germany’s online toy stores.  They constructed very large QR codes from Legos and put them in advertising displays throughout Germany.  Here is a short video about the award winning campaign.

As of today, AT&T is no longer offering unlimited data plans of any kind. Unless you are grandfathered in, you are now subject to monthly data limits of 200 MB or 2 GB, depending on which plan you go with. What does this mean for the future of the iPhone, with the new iPhone on its way? And what kind of impact will this have on the rest of the industry?

May 04, 2010: Mobile Advertising Market in UK grew 32% in 2009

Mobile advocates everywhere (including me) are predicting significant growth in mobile advertising in the United States in 2010. One of the market measures we look at is the growth of mobile marketing in other areas of the world where mobile got an earlier start, such as the United Kingdom. So how did the UK do last year? Well, according to the International Advertising Bureau (IAB), mobile advertising in the UK grew by 32% in 2009, up to an impressive £37.6 million ($57 million USD).

April 30, 2010: Can SMS Achieve More than a 100% Response Rate?

I like SMS marketing as much as the next mobile markerter… In fact, I am a HUGE proponent of it.  But this statement may be a little over the top.  As Mobile Marketing Watch reports, Marc Hyatt of Txtlocal recently made the claim that SMS advertising is capable of achieving more than a 100% response rate. Unfortunately, his statement is not just overzealous, it is flat out wrong.  And even worse, he is advocating a bad design model for SMS marketing.

April 27, 2010: What the heck IS a QR code anyway?

Well, that is a QR Code.
And they are popping up everywhere. In magazine ads, on billboards, online, even on the weather channel for crying out loud! So what the heck are they, why am I seeing them all over the place, and how do they work?

April 26, 2010: Missed Mobile Opportunity for Avatar?

With last week’s release of the highest grossing movie ever, Avatar, the marketing engines were at full speed promoting the epic science fiction masterpiece. But despite a strong marketing presence on television, radio, print and online, distributor Twentieth Century Fox chose to omit mobile as a marketing channel.
