300,000 Android handsets are activated every day

Its been rumored for over a month, but now it is confirmed. phoneArena.com reports that, “According to Google Q4 earning call, 300,000 Android handsets are being activated every day.”

Google VP Andy Rubin created the initial stir with a December tweet that first threw out the 300k number. At the time, it was interesting not only because it was higher than expected for Q4, but also because it was higher than the reported 270k iPhones being activated daily. The recent Q4 earnings report confirmed Rubin’s tweet.

This is also on the tail of the announcement that Android has surpassed iOS in total market share.
