57 Million

Dave Sifry’s new State of the Blogosphere report is out and, as usual, the numbers never cease to amaze:

• Technorati now tracks 57 million blogs
• The number of blogs is doubling every 236 days
• There are approximately 100,000 new blogs created daily and three million new blogs per month
• There are over 1.3 million new posts per day (54,000 per hour on average)
• The most popular blog languages, in order, are English, Japanese and Chinese

Mainstream media is rapidly incorporating blogs and those blogs account for a large portion of the traffic. However, there are still many individual or corporate blogs that are seeing considerable popularity. Sifry’s report highlights some of these.

Due to the exponential nature of this huge increase, it is apparent this growth will begin to slow at some point. At any rate, 57 million blogs has had a substantial effect on how we communicate. A recent post on the Marketing Shift blog titled, “How Blogs Changed The World,” highlights some of those effects.
