Apps Give Artists a New Creative Canvas
Björk, the Icelandic singer/songwriter is using technology to fulfill a life-long dream to educate children on musicology. She’s created a breakthrough multimedia album, Biophilia, (due out October 10th) which includes a ten-track song collection, along with iPad apps, iPhone apps, a documentary film, plus a world tour with museum residencies and children’s workshops. The album was partially recorded on an iPad. For one song, “Hollow,” the iPad app allows users to make rhythms out of DNA stands by inventing shapes with their fingers and “hearing” the shapes. It’s a breakthrough concept that is sure to inspire other musicians and artists.
