Blimp My Ad

How can marketers rise above the clutter? Try advertising your commercials, sports highlights or movie trailers from 1,000 feet up, on an enormous blimp with a 70-by-30 foot LED screen “baked in” to its side.

Manufactured by Orlando-based Lightship Group, the new FAA approved A-170 lightship recently made its debut at the National Broadcaster’s Association meeting in Las Vegas, and now, as reported in various media outlets, the blimp is on its way overseas for deployment in a $5 million year-long ad campaign for a yet-to-be-named advertiser.

New lighter and brighter technology in both balloon and LED technology are making this feat possible.

Company officials say they only might produce seven or eight of these lightships in the next few years, something that certainly could keep the ad costs high as demand potentially “soars” for this new advertising vehicle.

What’s next, aerial digital surround sound to accompany full-length movies shown via blimp?

Drive-in movie theaters, beware!
