Facebook Pages: Troubleshooting with Mentions

Early last week, Page Administrators started experiencing problems with Facebook’s @Mention feature. Here at Sundog, we’ve also run across this frustrating bug. Mentions are a very useful tool for Pages. When you use a mention within your posts or comments, they’re placed on the the Wall and Newsfeed of the profile or Page you are mentioning. This helps reach audiences through multiple hubs and is a great way to engage with other Fan Pages. We’ve dug into this issue and found a quick, easy workaround that’ll get you back in business until Facebook fixes the problem.

Nice workaround, never would’ve thought that would work, well done! :)

Conclusion: You can’t @mention other pages in a page post when you use facebook as a page. (Or am I wrong?)

Facebook really puzzles me sometimes…

Bjarte,

Currently, this is true. And that’s why you must use Facebook as your personal profile and set your settings so that you always comment on your business Page as your business Page.

This way, when you comment on your business Page as your personal profile, it leaves a comment as the business Page.

Thank you,
Alyssa

Hello
Thanks for above, unfortunately I have tried this and still no luck.  I have only liked the pages a day ago, is their a time frame you need to wait before using @mention?

Does not work under personal profile although have liked under personal??  Any idea what else I could try?

Thank you
Julie

Julie,

It seems that a lot of Page admins are still having this problem. We are no longer having this issue at Sundog. Our mention feature has started working without the workaround. Try changing your privacy settings and make sure your “Posts” are available to everyone.

Are you trying to mention on your Page or your personal profile?

There shouldn’t be a specific timeframe that you need to wait. Although, I have noticed that new Pages take some time to show up in the Facebook search engine. Perhaps the Page you are trying to mention is relatively new with few fans. It may take some time for Facebook to add the Page into its algorithm and show correctly in your mentions.

Thank you,
Alyssa
