IDC Predicts More Than 1 Billion Mobile Internet Users By 2013
In 2009, the number of mobile internet users grew to 450 million. Driven by the increase in affordability and popularity of smart phones, IDC predicts that number will more than double over the next four years, reaching the 1 billion mark by 2013.
In their Worldwide Digital Marketplace Model and Forecast, IDC states that the most popular mobile Internet activities currently are using search engines, reading news and sports information, downloading media, and communication via email or instant message. By 2013, IDC expects that the fastest growing application for mobile Internet will be making online purchases, blogging, and accessing online business applications.
