IE7 Underdelivers; WebKit Appears On Windows

After reading about Microsoft’s failure to support Web standards in IE7 as had been promised — according to one story IE7 actually supports FEWER standards than IE6 — I wondered why somebody hasn’t used Apple’s open sourced WebKit to build a Windows browser. Not much longer after reading those stories, I ran across GetWebKit who have developed Swift, a Windows Web browser based on WebKit.
Doesn’t it seem ever since Apple announced its switch to Intel processors that stranger and stranger stories appear and blur the lines between the Apple and Windows camps? How strange would it be if a WebKit-based browser gained any real market share on the Windows platform — or even half a percent? For the record, I don’t believe that would happen. It would be difficult for another browser to catch up to Firefox, but it is interesting to think about. For those lucky people with intel-fueled Macs (not me unfortunately), you could boot into Windows and run Swift. Doesn’t that just sound like so much fun?
