Is There A Shortage Of Mobile Software Developers?

Bloomberg Businessweek is reporting that companies are running up against a dearth of mobile software developers. But is there really a shortage of developers, or a shortage of companies willing to help train existing developers in new technologies?

Simon Judge presents an interesting response, in which he maintains that there are actually too many developers, including offshore pools. The shortage, in his opinion, comes from companies being too rigid in their candidate searches.

I tend to agree. Mobile development is a very new discipline, even for the rapidly changing world of software development. Experts in iPhone development, Android development, or Mobile Web development are still relatively rare. Companies looking to hire new mobile developers would likely be more successful in their candidate searches if they were willing to spend some time and resources to train the new hires.
