Jeff Bezos Invests in 37signals
37signals, the poster children of Web2.0 development, have taken a minority investment from Bezos Expeditions. The creators of online apps such as Basecamp, Backpack and Campfire along with the popular Ruby on Rails development framework, were not interested in money, saying they have plenty already. Rather, they wanted access to Mr. Bezos himself, as Jason Fried writes on their blog, “Someone who sees things a little differently and makes us feel right at home. Someone with a long term outlook, not a build-to-flip mentality. We found a perfect match in Jeff. Jeff is our kinda guy.”
Personally, I can’t imagine what they’ll get from Bezos since they seem to do quite alright on their own. However, if they think they’ll get something out of it, I have to believe they will. It will be interesting to see where they head next with the Jeff helping guide them. I can’t wait to see the results.
