[Updated] The Red River crested in Fargo this Saturday. It reached a historic high of 40.82 feet beating the old record of 40.1 feet established 112 years ago in 1897. The photo above was taken shortly before sunset on crest day looking east toward Moorhead and the Minnesota side of the river. The Main Avenue bridge between Fargo and Moorhead is visible on the left. It, and the I-94 bridge, were the only two bridges that remained open to the public in a 50-mile stretch along the river. You can see more flood photos from Saturday on Flickr here.

River levels are slowly going down, but the major battle hasn’t quite been won yet. However, with vigilant city workers, added military personnel, and an amazing citizenry standing ready, the outlook seems encouraging.

To cut down on congestion, the mayor has asked for help from non-essential businesses. As a result, most of us at Sundog will be working from home on Monday. Hopefully, on Tuesday we will be back in our offices with some sense of normalcy, but the vagaries of the flood, and a major winter storm (our third in five weeks) that is bearing down on us could alter our plans.

We regret if the record flood, snowstorms or the torrential rains have caused any inconvenience for those of you who do business with Sundog. We assume this must be nature’s version of the show, Survivor. If it is, I have no doubt our tribe will win the challenges.
