Twelve Senators Get Video iPods From iPac

Remember iPac, the folks gathering donations to buy video iPods for our senators to broaden their view of copyright and patent laws in this age of rapidly changing technology? On Tuesday, they shipped the first dozen iPods pre-loaded with all types of public domain content. From a collection of photos found on Flickr to the US Constitution and all variety of things in between, the Senators will have plenty to occupy their time.

How many Senators do you think merely pass the iPod on as a gift to their favorite staffer or children? With 88 more Senators still waiting for free iPods, my hope is that enough of them give their new iPod a try and fall in love like Senator Stevens, the Senator that inspired the iPac campaign in the first place.

It would be a sad day for Americans and technology if any version of the broadcast flag is passed into law. If something as simple as buying a few Senators iPods educates them enough to question those attempting to get the law passed then it’s a good thing. It’s too bad Apple doesn’t jump in and donate 100 iPods to the fund and let iPac concentrate on further educating the newly podded Senators.

If you’d like to load your iPod up and play Senator for a day, the complete list of the pre-loaded content can be found here. If you’d like to help other Senators get their iPods, you can contribute here.
