We’re On The List: 150 Cheap Places To Live
Often the connotation of the word “cheap” implies a certain diminished less than quality that extends beyond simply lower costs, but not so in the new Forbes study on inexpensive places to live. Our company’s hometown, Fargo, was on the list (under IQ Campuses). The point of the article is in this age of the Web, what you do doesn’t necessarily define where you have to live, so why not do it where the living is easy and less expensive. Fargo has also shown up on several other impressive lists recently including:
• The 25 Best Smaller Cities (#15) for doing business;
• The Milken Institute’s Best Performing Small Cities for growth (#24);
• Environment Protection Agency’s List of the Cleanest, Greenest Cities in America (#10);
• The Top 25 Safest Cities in America (#12).
Several other cities in our region are also on the Forbes 150 Cheap Places To Live list. These towns include: Bismarck, ND; Sioux Falls, SD; Grand Forks, ND; Brainerd, MN; St. Cloud, MN; and St. Paul, MN. Many of these cities also made some of the other lists above, too. OK, sorry to sound like a tourism brochure, but Fargo and other cities in this region are great places to live and work and, now and then, we all need to brag a little about the place we call home. Yes, sometimes in January, Fargo is colder than liquid oxygen, and yes, it occasionally looks like some of those scenes from the movie of the same name, but we have to have some drawbacks or soon we’ll all be complaining about urban sprawl and blight.
It takes awhile to get through the entire 150 Cheap Places on the Forbes site, so if you just want to see the list in its entirety, you can go here.
