What Could Be

Surveys have shown cell phones rank right up there with the Web and the computer as the technologies most important in people’s daily lives. We’ve come a long way, but this Business Week article shows us how much further the mobile industry could go if we can balance capitalism with technological and societal potential. Paid Content summarizes it for us with this graphic from the article.

Mobile phones are likely to be one of the main focal points of merging technologies. Witness the buzz among the mobile digerati around new cell phones such as the Sidekick 3: talk, text, email, IM, camera, MP3, real Web, keyboard, PIM, games, and MP3 all in a hot, hip package. Then, of course, there is the huge potential of mobile TV.

Mobile marketing is going to be big, too. It is quickly approaching the tipping point. As always, it will take many marketers awhile to pay attention to where the audience is going rather than to where it has been.
