YouTube monolith massively monetized
ComScore just released their January snapshot of online video popularity. The Google monolith still reigns supreme, serving up more than 14 times as many videos as its nearest competitor Hulu. (...and Hulu is still twice as large as all of Microsoft’s sites, combined)

The most interesting part of Google’s game (>98% of which is YouTube) is the fact that it doesn’t too many more viewers than other players. It does however, have extremely loyal viewers, and short-running times that keep users clicking for more. This creates huge value for a site that’s able to serve a new ad for each video watched.

YouTube’s taking advantage of the profitable model, earning approximately $450 Million last year and set to earn $700 Million this year. Not that Google’s paying too much attention, top execs barely noticed.
