Congratulations Android. According to the most recent comScore report, Android is now officially the top smartphone OS in the US Market, finally surpassing RIM and extending its lead over iOS.
Although this was expected, it is still amazing how quickly Android has overtaken its competitors. In September of 2009, Android was in last place among smartphone platforms, barely holding 2% of the total market share. Sixteen months later it is number one. Apple’s market share has remained level over the past year and a half, while RIM is nearly in free fall, positing double digit losses in the market share in the last two quarters of 2010. I expect to see RIM fall to #3 sometime in early Q2 2011.
