The comScore 2012 U.S. Digital Future in Focus report examines key insights from 2011 in digital advertising, social media, online video, mobile, search and e-commerce and what the trends mean to the current United States marketplace. Some key insights from the report include:
There was a 43% increase in online video viewing in 2011, with more than 100 million Americans watching online video content on an average day. The average viewer watched 239 videos.
Facebook was the leading U.S.publisher of display ads in 2011 delivering more then 1.3 trillion impressions. 4.8 trillion display ad impressions were delivered across the entire U.S. web in 2011. With advancement in advertising technology, targeting capabilities and creative units, brand advertisers continue to shift dollars to digital. Along with this shift comes greater accountability and a growing level of comfort with the digital medium among brand advertisers.
While Google maintained the #1 position in the U.S. search market, Bing showed positive growth (thanks in part to its social search partnership with Facebook) and closed out the year surpassing Yahoo! for the #2 position among core search engines for the first time in its history.
