Words of Wisdom
Leadership is hard, but it isn’t complicated. Surround yourself with great people, assume good intentions, and ask the right questions.
Earlier this year, Ad Age published an article entitled “Seven B-to-B Marketing Trends That Will Shape 2015.” In the article, Adam Kleinberg, CEO of Traction, said, "We need to realize that B-to-B customers are people. They go home and watch American Idol and they sit in traffic on the way to work. They have the same humanity and cultural insights you see in consumer work.”
With the announcement of our Employee Stock Ownership Plan today, we now move forward as one team of owners, fully aligned in our mission, sharing in the success of our growth and unified in our vision and legacy of building a globally recognized and admired marketing and technology company. It is a difficult challenge but one I know you will meet with equal energy and passion.
Now that Dreamforce ’12 has wrapped up, I’m sure those of you at the conference or attending online are reflecting on the week that was and planning how to take advantage of the new ideas, conversations and exciting product announcements. Our post-conference discussions at Sundog have already led to a number of to-do’s, including additional planning around the Marketing Cloud.

Sundog started attending Dreamforce in 2007 and we haven’t missed a year since. This year, a total of thirteen Sundoggers will be making the trip. While it may be a significant investment for our company, we know it’s a smart one. In order to maximize our return on that investment, we’ve spent a lot of time developing a plan that ensures we’ll get the most out of it.

When I sat down to write Sundog’s first business plan in 1995, one of our “think big” goals was make the Inc. 500/5000 list of the fast growing companies in our first three years. I still look at that old business plan from time to time and I’m reminded of how little I knew about running a business, the significant risk it brought and how much work was really involved.
